Compare with H. californica. Deep orange-red, generally flat - less inflated, much larger, perimeter spines shorter and may be more closely spaced.

Aleutian Islands, British Columbia south to Chile, Galapagos Islands. Locally, Santa Cruz and Rodriguez Seamount.

Benthic.
