General:
Body compressed and conical in shape with a broad oral end and pointed aboral end. Large mouth. Eight comb rows, all equal in size, run almost the entire length of the body. Color often clear to rosy pink with darker red along the comb rows.
Size:
To 15 cm total length.
Reproduction:
Hermaphroditic with holoplanktonic lifecycle.

Epipelagic and mesopelagic.
